Move the drawers
Drawers are an inseparable element of kitchen, bathroom or bedroom furniture. They allow efficient separation of objects and their storage. Whether they are small or large. Drawers are easier to keep tidy than large, deep cabinets, often with insufficient shelves where you have to do gymnastics to get out anything stored at the bottom. Drawers, on the other hand, are easier to find what you need by taking them out of the body of the furniture. So what should you pay attention to when choosing drawer slides? Below are the basic parameters that will make your decision easier.
Maximum load capacity
When choosing drawer slides, specify what you will store on them. This is especially important for kitchen drawers, where most often items such as plates and pans are no longer stored in cabinets. For heavy objects, the load capacity of the slide must be sufficient for the drawer to move lightly and efficiently. It should be noted that the wider the drawer, the more things will be stored in it, and therefore its load will increase significantly. Overloading the guide bar can lead to distortion and even breakage. It is then necessary to take into account the costs linked to their replacement.
Take out the furniture drawers
The slide extension tells you how far the drawer will protrude from the body of the furniture. Most manufacturers offer full or partial slides. Full extensions are particularly suitable for shallow drawers, where access to the back of the drawer is difficult. Full extension will allow the drawer to be fully extended along the entire length of the slide. A partial extension, approximately 3/4 of the length, can be left in the high drawers, provided that tall objects are not stored there, such as kitchen containers, where it will be impossible to remove the last one under the rear wall without removing a few others at the front.
Additional functions
Some slide models have additional functions. One of them is a silent and gentle close. This prevents the drawer front from slamming against the body of the furniture. This considerably increases the comfort of use of the furniture, as well as the “Push-to-open” function which allows the drawer to be opened with a light press of a button. This solution is particularly useful in the case of kitchen furniture, where we often have to open the drawer with our elbows or knees. Closing is done by pressing on the front of the drawer.
Type and method of assembly
When choosing slides, consider the type of drawers on which they will be mounted. You can choose between roller slides. Most often chosen because of their ease of installation and low price, where you can pay a few pounds (Euros?) for a set. Their disadvantage, however, can be low load capacity, most often up to 25 kg and partial extension. This is a good solution for small drawers, where light objects will be stored so as not to expose the slides to deformation. The mechanism used in roller slides means that
The drawers move quietly, so it is worth considering this in bedroom, living room and children’s room furniture.
Ball slides are a solution that can be used in almost any furniture thanks to their high load capacity of up to 50 kg. Partial and full extension ball slides are available on the market. It is worth noting the models equipped with silent and soft closing, for example the Soft-Close ball bearing slide set from Furnica (left and right), H45 or the slides with the “push to open” system
- If you are looking for high quality and comfortable slides, you should pay attention to them, because they accept a stronger temperature range than roller slides.
- To expose and highlight the beauty of the wooden drawer sides, it is worth using undermount slides. The invisible fixing at the bottom will make the drawer more beautiful. Furnica slides have a load capacity of up to 35 kg. You can choose between full or partial extraction models with a silent closing or opening function at the touch of a button on the drawer front. Make sure the wooden drawers in your home have a stylish finish.
With the tips above, we will be able to enjoy drawers that move easily and smoothly. Additionally, the wide range of runner lengths available will allow you to install them in furniture from shallow 25cm to very deep – up to 70cm deep. Adapting the load capacity of the drawer to the objects stored there will ensure problem-free operation of the drawer, and the chosen push-to-open or silent-closing system will ensure great comfort of use of any piece of furniture.
